I WROTE OUT an entire response but my laptop died for no reason. great. well anyway. dumb records is really awesome, its connected to this all ages music venue, the black sheep cafe. which has honestly been kind of a savior to a lot of kids in my town who would otherwise have nothing to do with their time/would have no way of being exposed to cool music/art. black sheep and dumb records are in the same sort of weird little lot thing, along with a skate shop, an indoor skate park, and a recording studio/practice space run by my friend brandon. i volunteer at dumb records, and so do most of my friends. its a whole community thing and its really great.
the metal door on the left side of the screen is the entrance to black sheep, the building next to the white van on the right is where the recording studio is, skanks skates (indoor skate park) is behind the left hand corner of this picture, with dumb records being a little bit past the edge of this picture on the right. its a drug-free all-ages music venue and every sort of band ever has come through at one point or another. its a complete blessing to the kids in this town, and its been a sort of second home to a lot of people, myself included. i once asked my friend who moved from springfield to portland if springfield is as bad as it seems sometimes, and he said that he noticed that there’s so much nothing there that people take notice, and start, as he put it, “squirting out culture”. we’ve got a really strong punk scene right now, and there’s so many people i know whos lives have been positively impacted by the place. i know that i wouldnt be nearly the same if i didnt have this place in my life and im really thankful for it
lol heres my band asthma playing inside skanks skates
heres what the inside of black sheep looks like heres big zit playing in skanks.this is the slime spaghetti from when lumpy and the dumpers came through and we made 100 lbs of slime spaghetti
Never take for anything for granted. This place and the people who are involved have meant so much to me, and for so long, that I can’t even imagine a life without a positive, creative space for kids to make and enjoy their art. This is so important.
